Like I said before you can always find people and research to discredit or credit your way of thinking. We are not here to argue lifestyle choices. Politics do play a big part in the information given and produced for the masses.

I encourage you to think about why you feel the way you do about food and where it came from.

As I mentioned Diet for a Small Planet was the foundation of my dietary learning.

“World Hunger is not caused by lack of food but by ineffective food policy”

If you have never read the book or would like to learn more about Frances Moore Lappe’ please visit www.smallplanet.org

Somewhere around 2007/8 I was given a copy of a book by T. Colin Campbell, The China Study. It reinforced and gave new information to things I had learned. Some Doctors and organizations attacked and did their best to dispute the information. I’m happy that more people seem to be reading this book and agreeing with the findings. For more information on T. Colin Campbell and The China Study please visit www.tcolincampbell.org

It is our personal opinion that a plant based diet is better for us and the planet. We feel it is not a lifestyle that everyone will choose, but we encourage you to eat more plants, buy what you can from a local farmer, then stay as local as possible for other foods.

When did I start to realize something was wrong with how I ate?

Back in the 70’s my uncle, who was 7 years older and really cool, was going to ecology rallies and into the whole peace, love, and happiness that was going on at the time. I overheard him talking with some of his friends about the animals that were our meat products and how they were treated and killed. It did not sound very honorable to me.

Then I stopped by his shop one day after school and he had some Morning Star bacon alternative. I liked it and starting thinking about my food. A few years after that I was given a copy of Frances Moore Lappe’s book “Diet for a Small Planet”. What I read really made sense to me.

Then my beautiful and precious daughter was born. I wanted to feed her the best possible way that I knew. After breastfeeding, I made her baby food. As she got older and I was exposed to more about how our diet and foods came to be, I decided to switch us to a plant-based diet. Over the years, just as Frances discovered, I realized you really do not need to combine foods in order to get enough protein in a plant based diet. Just eat with variety and stay away from processed foods, junk foods, white flour and sugar as much as possible.

Over time I have come to learn what my body does and doesn’t need. The key is learning how to listen.
